The Benefits of Figure Skating
Figure skating is both a sport and an art form. It combines technical precision with grace, musicality and physical strength. Figure skating differs from other forms of skating such as ice dancing and synchronised skating in that it concentrates on jumps, spins, steps and transition movements and dance.
Learning to figure skate has many benefits for both children and adults. Physically the sport helps to develop excellent balance, good reflexes and coordination. It also helps with postural control and strengthens the bones and the muscles. Skating requires concentration and self discipline - skills that are greatly appreciated by parents. Learning to follow instructions so they can skate safely, taking responsibility for themselves and learning to be part of a team are all part of the learning experience. In addition your child will get to experience the pleasure of skating in front of an audience and the fun of being with their friends. It is a demanding sport, but one that is full of fun and joy - the freedom of gliding across the ice, the pleasure of skating to music and the pride you feel when you perfect a move - these are the things that we give our skaters. |
