We ask our skaters to take good care of their skates for the whole season. A good pair of well maintained skates will help with your child's progression. With this in mind, please take note of the following advice :
- Skates need to be properly looked after, cleaned and maintained to remain in good condition.
- Skates are not made for getting around outside the ice rink, even with skate guards. They are not shoes!
- Once you have put on your skates in the rink, you will need to wear your plastic skate guards to walk around.
- To avoid your blades rusting, you should wipe down your blades and plastic guards with a soft dry cloth and then put your skates in your material skate guards before storing them in your bag.
- In order to prevent damage caused by the humidity of the ice and sweat, make sure you dry the inside and outside of your skates with a soft cloth or towel every time you use them.
- Undo the laces well and pull out the tongue to open the boot completely.
- Do not put your skates to dry somewhere hot like a radiator, as it will damage the leather and the internal structure of the skate.
- A skate is a piece of sports equipment made from black or white leather. They are often cut by the blades and so a pot of white or black skate 'wax' can be helpful to keep them looking smart.
- Plastic skate guards must be worn to walk inside the ice rink.
- Material skate guards are for putting your skates in after you have wiped them down following training.
- Skate sharpening should only ever be done by a professional, please talk to our trainers if your skates need sharpening.
- Our rental skates must never be worn outside the ice rink.
